ECOTECT is an industry leading building analysis program that finally allows designers to work easily in 3D and apply all the tools neccesary for an energy efficient and sustainable future.
We have some great resources online to help you discover more about ECOTECT, environmental building design and analysis in general, get support and send feedback to the Square One team;

Ecotect modelling
I'm a new user of Ecotect as we have just purchased the programme here in our office. I have made a simple model of a building and would like to start by showing daylight levels graphically over a floor area. I cannot seem to get through to your help line. I cant seem to find a tutorial explaining how to place a camera and the set up a view from that camera position. I believe I need to do this in order to set up an analysis grid and run a daylight programme. Perhaps you could help by email. Gratefully Dan
Daylight analysis using Ecotect...
Hi Dan,
Thanks for your post, and apologies for the delayed reply.
The following tutorials may assist you with performing a daylight analysis using Ecotect :
http://squ1.org/wiki/Ecotect_Daylight_Display http://squ1.org/wiki/Daylight_Factor_Analysis_Grid
Regarding cameras, there's no need to set up a camera view in order to be able to visually analyze your results. Everything you need to see is visible via the 3D editor tab once the analysis grid or point display has been calculated. The camera object is used when you wish to export your Ecotect model to an external analysis program, such as RADIANCE.
For future support requests, I recommend that you direct these via the main Square One Research website (http://www.squ1.com/support), as the wiki at this stage is still in its infancy. Also, I don't receive any kind of email notification when someone posts a new comment, so I tend only to find such comments when I just so happen to stumble upon them by accident!
Hope this helps!

Newbie qu's about accessing tutorials pls.....
Hi. I am new to this site. I want to be able to do the online tutorials. I just tried to find out how to do the "wind load" one. It says to:
To complete this tutorial, download the PrevailingWinds.zip Ecotect file available in the File Attachments section of this tutorial.
Then: "Unzip and then open the PrevailingWinds.eco file in Ecotect. The file consists of a simple three room house...."
But I cant even find where the zip file is! Can someone pls help out a newbie and guide me to EXACTLY where is this zip file??
Thanks in advance. Lee
Light study for Curved space
I am doing daylight study of current school project. So far, the result for the all spaces seem reasonable apart from spaces with curved wall. The range of light is from 0 - 7500 with some openings. After few tests, finally I decided to get rid of all the windows and tested again. Unfortunately, the result was about the same. Can't ecotect deal with curved shape? Attached files showing few images of my test. Can anyone give me advice how I can resolve this problem?
Ecotect Trial
Downloaded and installed the trial version of Ecotect and got the message shown on the screen dump attached.
What do I need to do?
Thanks Mike
Grid and analysis problems
Hi there,
I am trying to perform a lighting analysis (more precisely, a daylight autonomy) for a restauration project at work on the second floor of a building. I modeled the needed floor with lightshelves and surrounding buildins to make the calculations as accurate as possible. However, when it is time to fit in the grid, there are bizarre holes in the analysis grid as well as no results come up after calcuations (it remains at 0%). What have I modeled wrong? I am including the original file of the problematic grid.
Thank you for your help

About demand and consumption of energy
Hello
how can i know the demand of energy for a room ? (whitout hvac system because it depens of the efficiency of the hvac system) when ECOTECT calculates the monthly heating/cooling loads using a hvac system, it suppose the energy consumption to maintain temperatures into comfort bands ?
Thank you
